What Heirloom does with a horse. The coat is painted in warm, blended strokes with thick paint only where a painter would load the brush — the eyes, the wet nose, the lit side of the face — so the markings stay exactly where they are and the surroundings soften into a painted room.
The photo. Side-on or three-quarter in daylight with the ears forward, and include the neck — a head-only crop paints small. Tack on or off, as you like it.
The size. 24×36 or 36×48. Horses want height as well as width; a horizontal photo turns the sizes on their side.
