What Heirloom does with a cat. The coat is painted in warm, blended strokes with thick paint only where a painter would load the brush — the eyes, the wet nose, the lit side of the face — so the markings stay exactly where they are and the surroundings soften into a painted room.

The size. 12×16 to 16×20 — cats suit smaller, jewel-like sizes on a dark ground; 24×36 if the cat is the room's main character.
